Daily Mindfulness 9/29/12 – Practicing

Many of us read or hear about mindfulness and meditation, and have the illusion that we will grow from it.  However, we must actually practice the principles in our lives.  Doing a sitting meditation two times a day is an easily accomplishable goal for most all of us, and gives us a great introduction into mindfulness practice.

Even if your two meditations are 1 minute long, regularly sitting provides the foundation many of us need.  Upon awakening, we may sit in bed for a simple minute or so focusing on our breath, on how we feel this morning, and maybe on our gratitude for the gifts we already are experiencing.  When we go to rest at night, we may similarly take some time to feel our breath, feel the love in our hearts, and touch gratitude.

We may have a tendency to judge our practice.  Don’t!  Do not feel the need to set a timer or even a goal.  Focus on your breath and come into yourself.
