The Easier Softer Way will be hosting a poetry event in Santa Monica, CA on March 22nd. Benefits from the show will go to the LoveMore Movement. LoveMore is a wonderful organization that encourages love, compassion, and engagement through its charitable work in the community. Buddy Wakefield will be performing on Sunday, March 22nd in Santa Monica! Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Doors are at 7:00pm, and the show will start promptly at 7:30. We are stoked to have two local Write Bloody poets reading as well: Jeremy Radin and Brendan Constantine.
BUDDY WAKEFIELD is a three-time world champion spoken word artist featured on the BBC, ABC Radio National, HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, NPR and most recently signed to Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. In 2004 he won the Individual World Poetry Slam Finals thanks to the support of anthropologist and producer Norman Lear then successfully defended that title at the International Poetry Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands against the national champions of seven European countries with works translated into Dutch.
In 2005 he won the Individual World Poetry Slam Championship again and has gone on to share the stage with nearly every notable performance poet in the world in 2000+ venues internationally from The Great Lawn of Central Park, Zimbabwe’s Shoko Festival and Scotland’s Oran Mor to San Quentin State Penitentiary, House of Blues New Orleans and The Basement in Sydney, Australia.
The venue has a bar, and drinks are permitted in the theater!
Brendan Constantine’s work has appeared in FIELD, Ploughshares, Zyzzyva, Ninth Letter, Poetry Daily, ArtLife, and Hotel Amerika among other journals. His first book, Letters To Guns (2009 Red Hen Press), is now taught extensively in schools across the nation. His most recent collections are Birthday Girl With Possum (2011 Write Bloody Publishing) and Calamity Joe (2012 Red Hen Press). He has received grants and commissions from the Getty Museum, James Irvine Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. A popular performer, Brendan has presented his work to audiences throughout the U.S. and Europe, also appearing on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” KPFK’s “Inspiration House,” numerous podcasts, and YouTube. In October of 2014 Brendan headlined at the Dodge Poetry Festival with many of the nation’s most celebrated authors. He is currently teaches poetry at the Windward School in Los Angeles, California. Jeremy Radin is a poet and actor living in Los Angeles. His poems have appeared (or are forthcoming) in numerous journals and his first book, Slow Dance with Sasquatch, is available from Write Bloody Publishing. You may have seen him on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia or in a restaurant aggressively eating pancakes by himself. Follow him @germyradin.
